Bakgrund/Background:
The accurate knowledge and assessment of snow depth and other snow properties in the mountain areas is of paramount importance for the hydropower sector to better manage the water in the reservoirs and thus electricity production. Nevertheless, monitoring in mountain areas has several challenges and one of these is the lack of automatic weather stations. In 2020, we have developed a prototype of solar-battery powered ultra-low power IoT station. Another prototype has been developed and simply based on battery-powered ultra-low power IoT station. Uppgift/Task:
The aim of this thesis is to perform measurements of power consumption of IoT devices such as the Arduino® MKR1400, and perform simulations and optimization of the IoT energy system i.e., find the optimal battery and PV capacities using OptiCE www.optice.net. In particular, the effect of battery capcity at extremely low temperature should be monitored and simulated.
